Privacy Policy

Effective October 10, 2026

In short: your documents are indexed and searched on your device. Text is sent to an AI model only when you use AI Chat, and then only what is needed to answer.

This policy explains how PDF Search for iPhone, iPad and Mac (including the PRO editions) handles information.

Your documents

Indexing, text recognition (OCR), linguistic analysis and search all run locally on your device. Your files and the search index are stored on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud Drive. We don’t upload your documents for search.

AI Chat

On iPhone and iPad

AI Chat uses Apple Intelligence. Requests are processed on your device or by Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, under Apple’s privacy policy. We don’t receive your questions or answers.

On Mac

When you ask a question, PDF Search sends your question together with relevant text extracts (and any image you attach) to our server at pdfsearch.mozkan.com, which forwards it to Google’s Gemini API and returns the answer. We don’t store the content of your conversations. Google processes the request under the Gemini API terms. To keep your AI credit balance, our server stores a random account identifier created by the app, the App Store transaction IDs of credit purchases, and the number of credits used. It doesn’t store your name, email or document content.

Usage statistics

To understand which features are used and fix problems, the app may send anonymous usage events (such as “search performed” or “app updated”), app and OS version, device model, and a random install identifier. Our server derives an approximate location (country, region, city) from the network part of your IP address, using the ip-api.com service; the full IP address isn’t stored. You can turn usage statistics off in the app’s settings.

Earlier versions

Earlier versions of PDF Search for Mac also sent a device identifier and App Store purchase receipts to our server (formerly pdfsearch.app) to verify purchases and credits. That data is kept only as long as needed to support customers who still use those versions.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell or share personal data for advertising.
  • We don’t use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
  • We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR, Turkey’s KVKK or California’s CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because we don’t use accounts, we usually hold nothing that identifies you. If you want us to delete data linked to an anonymous identifier, write to us and include the identifier shown in the app’s settings, if any.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details. The app checks your purchases using Apple’s signed transaction data on your device.

Children

PDF Search is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children.

Security

Data sent to our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored on servers we operate in the United States with access restricted to the developer. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect it.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date.
